Martha took her first class when she was 21 years old but did not begin
a serious study of yoga until 10 years later. In 1991, she began teaching
and soon after joined the Michigan Yoga Association where she remains
an active member. This affiliation has afforded her the opportunity to
study regularly with leading teachers of national and international reputation
who teach a variety of yoga methods.
Martha’s background in gymnastics and dance informs her understanding, explanation and execution of the postures. Her classes weave together a variety of yoga styles and include breath-initiated movement, attention to body alignment and the linking together of postures into sequences to help support awareness of present moment experience. In addition to Barb Linderman, Martha’s studies with Sarah Powers and Donna Farhi have been major teaching influences. Martha has been a presenter at numerous community workshops and has taught yoga at Washtenaw Community College, the University of Michigan, and University Hospital. She is a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance.
